One-of-One Custom Commissions
One-of-one custom commissions
The DYSKINESIAA custom commission is a fully bespoke design process for a single piece, designed and cast for a single wearer or a single project. It is distinct from the BESPOKE imprint program, which casts a stock-form ring from the wearer's own finger negative. A custom commission starts with a blank page and ends with an object that exists only once.
Commissions tend to be larger and more involved than the standard catalogue. Past briefs have included full hand-pieces, dorsal sculptures worn down the spine, editorial pieces commissioned for music videos and magazine covers, and stage pieces built for specific performances. The studio takes a small number of commissions per year, by design.
What a custom commission is
A commission is a design conversation that produces an object. Ilyasse Ebadi works directly with the client from the first email through the final hand-finishing. The studio does not subcontract design or casting outside of the Paris atelier in Ivry-sur-Seine. The same hand that drafts the sketch finishes the piece.
Materials available for commissions include solid 925 sterling silver as standard, real shed snakeskin set in transparent resin, vegetable-tanned leather, and on request, gold or precious stones sourced specifically for the project. Scale ranges from finger-piece to body-piece. The studio has built scaled finger sculptures, double cuffs that wrap from wrist to elbow, dorsal pieces that lay along the spine, and statement bracelets that read as wearable architecture.
Process
A commission moves through five clear stages over four to six weeks.
- Brief. The client describes the piece, the wearer, the occasion if any, and the references that resonate. The studio replies with a feasibility note and a quote.
- Design. Ilyasse drafts the piece. The client receives sketches and 3D renders. Up to two rounds of revision are included.
- Wax. The piece is grown in wax and refined by hand. For complex pieces, the wax is shared with the client for sign-off before casting.
- Cast and finish. The piece is cast in solid 925 sterling silver using the lost-wax method, then hand-finished in the atelier. Polishing, oxidation, and any resin or leather components are integrated at this stage.
- Sign and deliver. The piece is signed inside, where possible, with the DYSKINESIAA stamp and the commission identifier. It is packaged in FSC-certified material and dispatched with full tracking.
Starting price
Custom commissions start at 5000 euros. Final pricing depends on weight in 925 silver, complexity of the wax sculpture, finishing time, any precious materials added, and total studio hours. The quote is firm before work begins. There are no surprise charges during the build.
Examples of past commissions
The DORSAL SHELL began life as a commission brief for a body-scale anatomical piece worn along the back. The form, a segmented shell that reads as a human spine in armor, was developed for a single client and later refined into the studio's reference vocabulary.
The MEMORY BRACELET was commissioned around the idea of a fragment that could carry a personal mark on the inside while presenting an architectural surface on the outside. The exterior is finished as a clean cuff. The interior carries a private inscription specific to the wearer.
Editorial commissions have included pieces worn in music video productions, magazine cover shoots, and live performances on tour. These projects are built to read on camera at full body distance and to survive the wear of a stage night, while keeping the same anatomical-architectural language as the standard catalogue.
How to start a commission
Write to contact@dyskinesiaa.com with a short brief. Include the type of piece, the wearer, any deadline, references that resonate, and an approximate budget. Photographs of the wearer's hand or wrist are useful but not required. The studio replies within a few business days with feasibility, timeline, and quote. From there, the conversation moves into the five-stage process described above.
Commissions are taken in the order they are confirmed. During busy periods, the timeline can extend beyond six weeks, in which case the studio will say so honestly at the brief stage. The intent is always to make the right object, not to rush it.
